Our Pastor

 io John C. Black is a native South Carolinian. He was born in Rock Hill, SC and growing up he lived in Rock Hill,  SC, Belton GA, Red Springs NC, Barnwell SC, Charlottesville VA, Chester SC, Orangeburg SC and Manning SC (which he considers to be his “home” town). He holds a B.A. degree in Political Science with a cognate in Economics from The University of South Carolina and an Associate degree in Engineering Graphics Technology from Central Carolina Technical College. He holds a Master of Divinity degree from Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte, NC.

He pastored Andrews Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Andrews, South Carolina, from 2004 – 2006. In August of 2006, Rev. Black was called to be the pastor of Second Street Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Albemarle, North Carolina. Before this, he worked as a Manufacturing Engineer in the automotive industry for several years. John also holds a fifth degree black belt in TaeKwon-Do, which he taught from 1985 – 2016.

John is married to Amy Black, originally from Manning, SC. She has worked as a  Victims’ Witness Legal Assistant with the Stanly County District Attorney’s Office,  and now works in a real estate law office.  She is a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, a recently a very young great-grandmother. They have four adult children – Lee, Snezhanna, Ian and Chandler; six grandchildren – Eric, Mariah, Leland, Serenity, Tinsley, and Bear; one great-grandson, Sebastian.

John believes in the centrality of the local church and the covenant households of which it consists. He desires to see their revitalization. He is devoted to expository preaching and longs for its recovery. He is committed to seeing the Gospel transform lives as we seek to speak the truth in love and to come into loving community with one another as we center our lives around Jesus Christ.
