Connect & Grow

In Hebrews 10:25 we learn to "not neglect our meeting together, as is the habit of some..." Some of you reading this may have once faithfully attended a church each and every Sunday, only to find yourself today, not attending one at all. It is easy to get out of the "habit" of attending church. It is also easy to attend church every time the doors are open out of "habit." Some people that hardly miss a worship service may not truly be there for the right reasons. Both aforementioned scenarios are not what Jesus intended for us. We are called to gather together in corporate worship in Spirit and in truth. The "Church" (meaning those in it) is referred to in the Bible as the "bride of Christ," and Jesus Christ as the Bridegroom. Just as a bride that loves her husband should desire to be with him, we should likewise (being the body of Christ) want to be united together to worship who we should love over any other, that is Jesus Christ. Jesus desires an intimate relationship with the Church.
Reason number two for joining us is, we are more effective as a body of believers than going at it alone. Proverbs 27:17 teaches us that "Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another." Being part of a Bible believing church is not only beneficial for you, but for those around you! Humans are naturally called to be part of a community and to work together for common goals. Our church has many goals with the most important being to glorify God and enjoy him forever, while we spread the good news of Jesus Christ and the salvation freely available to those who believe.
A third reason to join us is to help discover and use your spiritual gifts for the Lord. All believers are blessed with various spiritual gifts that are intended to be used. Some of us may be good at teaching, others at helping those in need (mercy), and others encouraging those around you! Not sure what your spiritual gifts are? We can help you conduct a spiritual inventory on yourself to unveil certain gifts and talents that you may not have known you had and then provide you with opportunities to put those spiritual gifts and talents to use.
A fourth reason to join the community of believers at Second Street is to grow in your knowledge and saving faith of Jesus Christ, and to be equipped to do the work our Creator intended for us to do, not only within the walls of our church building, but in whatever corner of the world you find yourself in through ministry.
A fifth reason to join us at Second Street is simply the fact that we are a friendly church! This is a common theme we hear from visitors. Our members come from a diverse number of backgrounds. Some of them came to us by transferring their membership from other churches in other denominations, while some walked into our church for the first time as an unbeliever. No matter where you find yourself, you are sure to feel welcomed as soon as you meet us in person.
