Last Night on the Road

Posted by: Heath LuQuire in Untagged  on

Sorry that I haven't blogged lately, we have been super busy doing different things. Since Kansas we have had "hit and miss" internet access and have been doing a cyclical pattern of sleep, wake up, drive, minister, sleep. So this is the last night on the road, and I am sad to see this trip come to an end but I am also really excited about sleeping in my own bed without waking up to a 16 hour drive. The ministry was awesome and my prayer is that the seeds we have spread fall on fertile soil. It is disappointing that we cant see the seeds grow but we have done our mission. Thanks to everyone who helped us along the way through housing, finances, food or prayers, we are very appreciative. See you all very very soon.

8 hours of Sharing

So we left Memphis yesterday morning and set out for Branson Missouri. The trip was supposed to be 5 hours. Well Rahab (this is what we named out GPS) took the long route. So the trip took 8 hours instead of 5. It was out in the middle of nowhere and we only saw maybe 10 cars for 5 hours (and about 5 tractors.) Well on this trip we stopped once at a gas station and spoke with a man named Aaron. He is from the Church of Latter Day Saints, and seemed ashamed of it. We shared Christ with him unashamed. Aaron was the only person we saw yesterday because the day was full of driving. So yesterday was packed full of deep Bible conversations. 4 guys with 3 open Bibles (the driver can't open his Bible and drive at the same time, c'mon people) sharing what they believe personally and then backing it up with scripture. It was awesome. We bonded as a group of missionaries who have the same desire in our hearts, and that is to spread the word of the living Jesus Christ wherever we are.

Requests?

Posted by: Heath LuQuire in Untagged  on

We have requests from people that do not know us, to tell about how this mission trip started and where we are going and what we are doing. So here it is! It started for me when Jerry and Letto told me about it and said there was more room in the van if i wanted to go. Well i told them i wanted to but counldnt afford the trip and at that time a teacher of ours walked into class and asked "Cant afford what?" Then a light went off, "I could raise the money for this mission trip!" So i asked her if she wanted to help out financially and she told me that she would. So we sat down and wrote letters to family, friends, and churches asking for prayer and financial support. We raised a lot of money (some money came out of pocket for some of us.) What we want to do on this trip is to simply spread the Gospel any way we can. Whether it is by service work (i.e. yard work, painting, water distribution, etc.) or by sidewalk evangelism, or through just singing praises and talking with any one we encounter. So far we have done all of these but we have also done things that we would never have thought of. There is a lot more depth to the story but that is it in a nut shell.

Drifters

Last night (5-23-10 Day 2) When we finished helping paint a house we needed to refill our food supplies for the next days trip to Memphis. On our way in to Wal-Mart we saw 2 homeless* people. Letto immediately went to share the Gospel with them. We spoke with them and shared the gospel and had the opportunity to pray with them. We went into the Wal-Mart to do our shopping and when we came out of the store the two people that we shared with before had two more people with them. We stopped and shared with them also. After we told about Christ's love we prayed with them once again. It was 8 people holding hands joined together in prayer in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Nashville TN at 9 o'clock at night. Please pray for Chris, April, Dwight, and James as they travel and pray that the seeds we spread last night fall on fertile soil. *- they are drifters more than homeless, because they told us plain and clear that this is the life THEY chose. James told us he has been drifting around the country for 17 years.

Civil War

Last night when we were leaving Kevin's house (the house we helped paint) we ran across a national civil war memorial graveyard where it looks like thousands were buried. The doors weren't open so we decided it would be a good idea to hop the fence. So we did it. (It wasn't a large fence, it was only like 2 foot tall so it wasn't trying to hold anyone out.) As soon as we got inside the fence and was about to start taking pictures we noticed a police officer approximately 200 yards away watching us. We quickly exited the graveyard. We have a really nice picture of Jerry hopping the fence, kinda ironic, he came to America so that he wouldn't have to do this. On our way to Memphis today we saw a sign that said Shiloh Civil War Battlefield and decided to stop there. Well when we exited I-40 there was a sign that said Shiloh was 51 miles away. There was no way we were going to drive that far to see that, but we saw a small visitor's log cabin and we stopped there to check it out. We discovered here that Letto has an alter ego named "Jolly" and apparently he is as redneck as they come with an overwhelming love for Robert E. Lee. It will surely be in the DVD.

Across the Country with Weirdos

So mostly i am going to tell you about the weirdos that i am going to be living with for the next 13 days. Jantzen and Letto have this thing where they saw "Choctaw Buh-haw" I dont understand what it means but its hilarious when they say it. I think that as we get further away from the south, people will look at us with a tilted head more and more. Last night Jerry woke up 4 of the 6 men in the house with his snoring. I brought ear plugs that I will surely use tonight. Letto is a great driver but he swerves a lot, so he tends to get comments from the rest of us. This morning at worship we partook in communion. The 4 of us took it together while we read the Bible because it was informal at the church where we worshiped. We have a video of it that will be on the DVD when we return home. Nicole (my wife) sent with me a card for every day that we are on this trip, and i would like to share with you what she wrote in the day 1 card. Proverbs 16:9 says "In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps." That was an encouragement as we set out on our trip that this is going to be a great trip that God is determining our course. Keep us in your prayers, see you soon.
