Small Groups

What are small groups?

Second Street small groups are a collection of believers within the Second Street community.

What size are small groups?

They vary in size but usually the maximum effective size is about 12 people.

How often do they meet?

The two groups that we have going right now meet every week for a series of weeks to be determined by the group and then they might take a break for some period of time…and then restart themselves.

What happens in small groups?

Several things take place in a small group setting.  Certainly, especially with Second Street folks, there is a social component of a small group…you become friends.  Also, there is a sharing component of small groups.  Sort of a report on what is happening in your life.  Third, there is some sort of teaching/discussion on a Biblical topic that is an important part of any small group meeting.

How long do the meetings last?

Well, the goal of the meetings is to keep it to about 90 minutes but, when friends get together, it often goes a little longer.

What if I “don’t fit the pattern”—I’m divorced, never married, not a member of Second Street, not the same age as everyone else in my group, etc?

No one will deny that “like attracts like” but the current groups successfully contain a wide range of ages, divorced folks, non members, etc.  The final answer to this question?  Try one on for a little while and see if it works for you.

What do I do if I want to further consider joining a small group?
